Term Structure Planning

Term Structure Planning

Whether you choose to use our Rainbow program or not, planning the term ensures progressive learning and balanced skill development. It gives you the opportunity to create clear plans and focus for yourself as an instructor and the children.

Teaching Points:

  • Outline term objectives: foundational skills first, then progressions, culminating in mini “performance” or assessment.
  • Plan skill rotations to cover strength, flexibility, coordination, and confidence.
  • Include regular review weeks to consolidate learning. The last week of term can be a good opportunity to do this if you operate term to term.

Practical Examples:

  • 6-Week Term Plan:
    • Weeks 1–2: Knee tucks & intro to inversions
    • Weeks 3–4: Short inversion transitions.
    • Weeks 5–6: Consolidation, small group challenges, skill showcase.

Build in variety, progression, regressions, alternatives and achievable milestones to maintain motivation. Exams are a great way to build motivation and consistency.
